A Letter From Napa's Only Black-Owned Winery

Brown Estate is the first and only Black-owned estate winery in the Napa Valley. The Brown parents sold grapes from a ranch they restored in the eastern hills. Their children started making the family’s own wine, and the rest is history.

Dear Good Eggs community!

From our family and team at Brown Estate, thank you for welcoming our Chaos Theory red blend, a.k.a. “wine o’ the times,” and our sister label, House of Brown, into the Good Eggs fold.

Chaos Theory joined our Brown Estate lineup in 2004 as an iconoclastic blend of Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, at the time a low-key form of sacrilege in traditional winemaking circles. Historically it has been something of a shape-shifter with the components evolving from vintage to vintage, even as our winemaking approach has followed certain guiding principles to achieve an end goal of delicious.

House of Brown was established in 2018 as a new point of entry for our growing wine community. Its intended Q1 2020 launch was upended by the pandemic; as fate would have it, House of Brown made its debut in June 2020. The package and brand messaging, both a reflection of and homage to our existing Brown Estate audience, had resounding resonance in that mid-2020 moment, and both continue to signal our mission as a beacon of diversity and inclusivity in the wine space.

It bears mentioning that for years during intermittent residencies in San Francisco and our frequent travels between Napa, SF, and the East Bay, we have been enchanted by the delightful disruption of Good Eggs delivery van sightings around town and on the open road. It’s a mood! We are thrilled to have become a Good Eggs partner this year.

Cheers & happy holidays!
